American Dream

A nice house, good job, a car and a family all of these are examples of what an American dream can consist of. For many people it can be very different and at the same time very similar. We are all unique individual who have very different standards that govern our lives. To pick out the American dream, well is impossible. I can only say what my American dream is which just happens to being involved in something greater than myself.

  1. Good thoughts. I think a nice house, good job, a car and a family are all key parts of most people's American Dream. I would say that many people include other things in their personal dreams though. I think happiness is in a lot of people's American Dream as well.

  2. I think that many people want to be part of something larger. I want to become a teacher to become part of something larger, to pass on my love of reading. We all are looking for what will make us happy. I believe that the is the main component of the American Dream.

  3. You touched on a great point about being part of something bigger. Who knows, the idea of the American Dream might have originated from the idea of being part of something bigger and better than just fullfilling our wants and needs. It would probably help society as a whole if that was incorporated into more peoples goals and dreams. I agree that the key parts of most peoples dream are a house, job, and car. It is just going to change a little for each person.

  4. The American Dream grew out of poverty and oppression. Promises of "free land" and a rich life have always been the core elements of the American Dream. "America" was escape, just like the drugs in Thompson's novel. This was the dreamland where all life's problems would be solved. Most early immigrants very quickly discovered the "myth" of the American Dream. And in many ways, I think it may still be a myth today.

  5. I agree that while everyone's American dream is different, they are still somewhat similar. While the idea of a family, a nice house, and a car in the driveway are now a little cliche, I believe that most people still want the "ideal" life, although it will be slightly different depending on the individual.
